When God Made You by Matthew Paul Turner
When I started reading blogs around 2006 or 2007, I followed a few bloggers regularly. One of those bloggers was Matthew Paul Turner who was writing at JesusNeedsNewPR.net. Turner is outspoken. He often says things that most people won’t. But that’s for the adults. This book is for your kids and they are going to love it. I know I did.
When God Made You is aimed at children ages 3-8, however, this is a book you’re going to want to read to them even when they might not understand. Kids often don’t know who they really are or how much God really loves them but in this book, they might come to some understanding.
While the words rhyme and have great auditory interest, the message never changes: In God’s eyes you are important, unique, loved, wanted, very, very special, and, made in His image.
This is the kind of book where I wished I knew the little girl’s name but I understand why she wasn’t given one. She’s every child. All children, no matter what gender or race will appreciate her wanderings, creativity, and her gentle heart.
I can’t even begin to tell you how much that I absolutely love New York Times bestselling author and illustrator David Catrow‘s illustrations. They are bright, fanciful, and very interesting. Catrow has illustrated numerous books and this one is just as beautiful. You child will be captivated by the heroine and all the cool things that she does. The pictures just cement Turner’s message.
You are going to want to get this book for your kids, your friends’ kids, and for your grandchildren. This should be a regular part of your baby shower gifts because every child needs to hear the wisdom in When God Made You. Me? My child is a grown man now but I’m eager to give it to a couple with littles and who are going through training to foster littles. Think how blessed those kids are going to be.
